DOP-C02 practice exam and simulator
The AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional (DOP-C02) exam is about automating everything between a code commit and a healthy production system: pipelines, infrastructure as code, multi-account governance, monitoring, and what happens automatically when something breaks. The questions are long scenarios, and several answers usually work. The right one is the answer that meets the requirement with the least manual effort.
Exam Ascent gives you a timed DOP-C02 exam simulator and a large bank of practice questions organized around the exam's six domains, with an explanation for every answer option.

What the DOP-C02 exam covers
AWS's exam guide splits the scored content into six domains:
- SDLC Automation (22%): CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, building and storing artifacts, and deployment strategies such as blue/green and canary.
- Configuration Management and IaC (17%): defining infrastructure as code, reusable templates, and managing configuration across many accounts and Regions.
- Resilient Cloud Solutions (15%): high availability, scaling, and recovery: designs that keep working when a component or an Availability Zone fails.
- Monitoring and Logging (15%): collecting and analyzing metrics, logs and traces, and building alarms and dashboards that tell you something is wrong.
- Incident and Event Response (14%): event-driven automation, automatic remediation, and troubleshooting failed deployments and services.
- Security and Compliance (17%): identity and access at scale, automating security controls, and checking compliance continuously.
AWS expects candidates to have two or more years of experience provisioning, operating and managing AWS environments, with experience of the software development lifecycle and programming or scripting. Advanced networking, database tuning and full-stack application development are out of scope.
Exam format at a glance
- Questions: 75 (65 scored, 10 unscored questions mixed in)
- Time: 180 minutes
- Question types: multiple choice (one correct answer) and multiple response (two or more correct answers)
- Passing score: 750 on a scale of 100 to 1,000
- Scoring: compensatory: you need to pass the exam overall, not each domain. Unanswered questions count as wrong, and there's no penalty for guessing.

How practice works here
Exam simulation. A full-length set of questions drawn at random from the bank, timed at the real exam's pace. Mark questions for review and move around with the question navigator, as you would on test day. Your score and every explanation appear once you submit.
Study mode. No timer. Check each answer as you go and read the explanation straight away. Study sessions are kept out of your exam scores.
Quick practice and blocks. A short random set of 10 or 20 questions, or the whole bank in 50-question blocks.
Explanations for every option. Each explanation covers why the right answer fits the scenario and why each of the others doesn't. On DOP-C02, wrong options are often services that would work but need more manual steps, more code or more accounts to manage, and the explanations point that out.
Exhibits where they matter. Some questions include an exhibit, such as a diagram, shown above the question.
All-or-nothing scoring. A multiple-response question only counts when you pick every correct option and nothing else.
Your progress. Every attempt is kept with your best, last and average scores, and progress charts show your score and time per question across tests, so you can see whether you're getting more accurate and faster.
Keep going if your connection drops. Answers are kept on your device and saved as soon as you're back online, even if you close the tab.
Tips for DOP-C02 questions
- Read the last sentence first. "Most operationally efficient", "least downtime" and "fastest rollback" usually point to different answers for the same scenario.
- Prefer automation over people. If one answer has an operator running a script and another uses an event rule to do it automatically, the automated one is usually right.
- Think in many accounts. Questions often involve an organization with dozens of accounts; answers that centralize management or deploy to all accounts at once tend to beat per-account setups.
- Know your deployment strategies. Be clear on when in-place, rolling, blue/green and canary deployments fit, and how each one rolls back.
- Check your pace. 75 long scenarios in 180 minutes is about 2 minutes 20 seconds each, so a full simulation early on shows whether you need to read faster.
